Miguel Freitas grew up in Lisbon, Portugal, later he moved to
Toronto where he continued to study the fine arts exploring ways
of expressing his creativity.

His artistic diversity and ability to work with various media and styles
has proven to be a great asset to his creative career. Starting out as
a photographer, and then venturing into the design industry, his
success as a designer and illustrator eventually led him to positions
working as Art Director for companies both in Canada and Europe.

Although he enjoyed design, he longed for new challenges and
creative freedom and so he ventured on his own and has been
painting full time since 2004. The unusual use of mixed media and
subject matter, are a perfect marriage, each painting telling a story,
drawing you closer and inviting you to touch it's textured surface.

You will lose yourself in the warmth and comfort of these
whimsical impressions.

In my words

When I compose my art, I try to express things as they appear
to me and not always as they are in reality.

My paintings are creations of my imagination and the places they
depict are meant to be interpreted by my audience. I like to play
with perspective angles, lighting and shadows as I try to create
an illusion of depth and a visual walk-way into my paintings.

My pieces begin with a sculpting-like technique consisting of
paint and mixed media which combined with rich acrylics reveal
a scene full of character and emotion.

Each painting tells a story, drawing you closer and inviting you
to touch its highly textured surface.
