Inspired by travel but composed from imagination, these scenes appear familiar as if they are real places along the Mediterranean although stylized with a whimsical movement and a touch of surreal.  Influenced by an impressionistic colour palette, Freitas aims to capture the warmth of the afternoon sun, the fleeting light and its playful shadows.   Brushstrokes are exaggerated in thick impasto paint that resembles architectural details seen in the crumbling walls of an old town, a tranquil place full of history and character.  The purpose of each painting is to transport the viewer and to ignite their imagination.
